Maybe It’s Time To Find a New Job in 2021

Many people are looking forward to saying goodbye to 2020 and are looking towards 2021 with great hope and anticipation and a desire to start fresh. If your job is part of the reason why you are ready to shake off 2020, it might be time to find a new one.

Here are signs that it’s time to start looking for a new job.

You Are Unhappy Most Every Day

While no job is a walk in the park every single day, no job should make you downright miserable every single day, either. If you have felt unhappy at work every day for a while and it has nothing to do with the outside stressors of 2020, consider it sign you need to move on.

You’re Procrastinating More and More

We all procrastinate now and then, but if you find that you are procrastinating much more than usual or are procrastinating so much that you are missing deadlines, it’s time to start a job search. You should be able to find something about your job that is more engaging than Facebook.

Your Work Environment is Toxic

Your work environment has a significant impact on how you feel about your job. If you work in a negative or toxic environment, it can be impossible to do your best work. If your boss is terrible, if your coworkers are gossips, if you can’t trust anyone and if the office is run by politics rather than business needs, it’s time to start looking for a new job.

You Aren’t Advancing

As a talented technical professional, you probably want to grow your career over time. Most people would prefer not to remain stagnant forever, so if you have goals of developing as a professional and your employer doesn’t offer opportunities to grow, it’s time to find a company that will.

Your Job Responsibilities Don’t Align With Your Talents or Skills

Over time, many job responsibilities can shift. But if your job has changed so much that you are not using your skills or you simply don’t like what you are doing anymore, it’s a good idea to move on.

Turnover Is High Among Top Performers

High turnover is never a good sign, especially among top performers. High turnover often indicates a cultural issue, but even if you like your company’s culture, it’s difficult to work when your team members are constantly changing. If everyone else is heading out for greener pastures, it’s a sign you should, too.
