Educational Requirements

Architect is a protected term, meaning that professionals must meet certain requirements in order to designate themselves as such. First, prospective architects must complete a degree program that is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. Specialized bachelor’s degree programs focused on architecture typically take five years to complete, while master’s programs take two years. Upon graduation, architects must complete a licensing program that requires an internship with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Completing the internship takes a minimum of 5,600 hours of training.

Employment Outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment outlook for engineers is quire bright. Between 2012 and 2022 the field is expected to add 18,600 new jobs and grow by 17 percent, which is considered much faster than average. Median salary in 2012 was reported to be $73,090 per year.
